I couldn't sleep last night. Ive always been a person who reads in between the lines. I listen to the rain, I try to clam myself and listen to those around me. Last night my brain just wouldn't shut off. I stumbled upon a theory and it snowballed till about 3:30 am.
As you know human beings are 90% water. I was drinking a bottle of water and had a thought. Maybe this bottle of water is a clue to our existence. I know crazy, just hear me out. Our bodies are like vessels for water.Comprised of Carbon Water and Energy. The bottle, in a way, is the same.The plastics and the materials are a vessel for the water. If I threw that bottle of water into the ocean, eventually in time the bottle with deteriorate and the water will pour back into the ocean. This is where it got weird for me. Perhaps after we die, the energy within us flows back into an "ocean" of energy that may span across our galaxy. Perhaps our planet and our ocean is a clue to what happens to us in the afterlife.
Going back to the bottled water thrown into the ocean. Lets say the bottle breaks down, the water flows back into the ocean. From there that same water helps the fish live and breathe. The moisture eventually flows upwards into the air and creates storm clouds. The storm clouds create rain and helps plants grow. Then the plants are eaten by animals and help release oxygen. wheeew. I can go on and on but you get my drift.
Perhaps its the same with us. After we die our energy will flow and move across vast distances. Eventually leaving our galaxy, help create stars, moving comets, etc.
I was talking to a Buddhist monk. He says energy flows through us. We determine the flow of positive energy or negative energy. Just like water, we can choose to freeze it, or boil it. Even water in a bottle we can choose to keep it refrigerated or leave it out in the sun. You've heard of the term, to much of anything is not good for you. Thats starting to make sense for me. Dont be too hot or too cold. Create positive energy and expel the negative.
I dont belong to any specific religion. My parents practice Buddhism, and I like and respect their beliefs a lot. I don't know if its normal for someone to think about things like this, while not being under the influence of some sort of drugs. Its just the way my brain functions. I think about this stuff and maybe Im crazy, but It just kept me up last night. So for now time to get some sleep.

I was impatient today, nothing coming out right. I decided to slow down and just design my own Samurai Armour again. I wanted it look like it was in a museum. No swords, no movement, just the Armour. I zone out when I ink for a long time, you lose track of time, music sounds better. Its absolute Zen.

Some people have asked me how I go about drawing the way I do.
I took a snapshot of my last piece before adding the details. I see everything in simple shapes. From there just fill in the details. So in order I pencil, Ink contour lines, then add details.

Custom Samurai

I read that most original Samurai amour thats displayed in museums are not always 100% original. A lot of the pieces are pieced together from other similar sets of Armour. This gave me an idea to maybe design my own set of Armour. Sort of like a fashion designer I implemented all things I would personally like to see. If I had the resources and time, I would learn to make this Armour by hand. I have so much respect for the craftsmanship and the time it must take to make one suit. I will be doing many more pieces like this one.oh yeah .Pen and Ink 11x14 bristol board.

Hello, This one was tricky. I originally had the tentacles smaller. I decided to go larger and It felt right. I guess the octopus could be a metaphor for the grim reaper taking him to the other side. Ive been trying to be more patient with my work and Im liking the outcome more. Thanks guys.

This White Tara the goddess of compassion. Her tibetan name is Sgrol, it means cross over ocean of existence. She is invoked to save mankind from the perils threatening it. Tara the kinetic power of compassion saves suffering creatures.

Hey guys. This is my second attempt at my Minimate photography. The Avengers one I did came out to light. I think The photos were so bad on it I was adjusting the lightness to compensate for the bad photos. This one I adjusted my white balance a bit more and did minimal work on each character. A little photoshop effects then Boom! all done.

Its been a while for me. Heres a commission I just finished. It took me about a month , working on it on and off. This one took a lot out of me , but hey, it was fun to do. I only agreed to it cause I love Japanese monster movies. I remember curling up on the couch to watch Godzilla 1985, It was awsome.

Hey guys guess what I got! An original Voltron.! Just like the one I got on my 7th birthday. I just found this one on Ebay. When I was a kid, my parents gave this away to some bratty kid who stayed at my house. I wasnt home at the time so when I got home my parents said they gave it away, I was so pissed. I cried for days. I swore for the first time at my parents and I wasnt scared about getting a beating. Any way, Im so Happy i found this one in good shape. Look at the smile on my face

We live in an time of ipods, X-BOX's, PSP's , HD-DVD'S , Podcasts, and yes even webcams, I personally feel a tad bit overwhelmed and exhausted. Technology has moved so darn fast sometimes I need to take a break.
Every week I visit my local comic book store. I know what your thinking, comics! who reads comics anymore!? Well a lot of people still do. Sales have increased due to the great books Marvel , DC, and other great indie companies like Tokyopop and Kitchen sink press.
Some of you are saying well Ide like to read comics again but where do I start? Ive missed soo much. Well Thats why Im here my friend.
I highly recommend starting off with Marvel comics Civil War. Theres a trade paperback you can pick up that starts the entire saga. Art by Steve McNiven and written by Mark Millar.Spidey unmasks himself on live television! Ironman and Captian America duke it out! you cant beat that!

One book especially I really think you should ditch everything to pick up is Ultimates 3. coming out this Dec 5th 2007.One of my favorite artists Joe Madueria has come out of retirement to do a 5 issue series that will knock your freakin socks off! check out the art I posted! Its going to be absolutely amazing!

Well its a start. I hope some of you out there makes the effort to pick up comics again. I believe comics is the greatest art form there is. I only hope some of you feel the same way.Ill be back with some other recommendations in months to come . see you later!

Hostile Planet 3 preview

Hello,
I went to the wizard Chicago comic con this summer and handed out about 20 copies of my comic and so far just received rejection letters.
I was going to do Hostile Planet as 3 issue miniseries. I decided to put all 70 pages in one graphic novel. I figure it'll be easier to pitch 1 book rather than 3 issues.
I'm currently still on page 33. I think Ill finish by the end of February or march. I plan to promote it next year at Wizard world in Chicago next june.
I did this sample piece to get an idea of what the final war is going to look like. Ill see you soon,

Hello,
Lately Ive been so busy lately with caricature gigs, and freelance work. I decided to rent a flick. I rented TMNT and I was absolutely blown away! First of all as a kid I collected all the action figures and watch the cartoon, wait scratch that, I recorded all the episodes everyday! I wasn't too excited about the film when It was in theaters. I guess as I got older I felt like they were just passing out the old junk to a new younger audience.
In a way they are, but I have to say they didn't for get about old school fans like me. First of all the animation is incredible! They stayed true to the characters personalities and might I say they did a fantastic job with Raphael. (I think the coolest of the turtles). The story was a tad bit predictable and cliché. On the other hand For a rental I was extremely impressed.
Im defenitly going to purchase the dvd.
So If your browsing the video store shelves, dont pass up this movie. I give it 4 out of 5 shells.

I wish i could put my comic for sale but heres the reason why.
in order to break even with the printing cost Ide have to charge.
$13.00 for my comic to break even. to print 30 books it cost me $430.00 and thats not including shipping. right now Im praying that someone picks it up and publishes it for me, so the cost wont be so high.

I decided to not wait and go on with HP issue 2 of 3.

The other day I stumbled across one of my personal possessions that I am ever so grateful for. Its a caricature drawn by my dear departed friend Gary Fasen. I personally believe one of the best Cartoonists Ive ever seen. I was very fortunate to have worked with Gary for over 5 seasons @ six flags great america in gurnee il. Not a day goes by that I don't think about the countless lessons he taught me. Gary was a great mentor, adviser, coach, teacher and friend to me and so many other great artists.
I wanted to share this all of you. I also included a short film made by my friend Paul Roustan.

Hello, Some of you may know That i draw caricatures every weekend.
I drew my friend Ryan today. Her boyfriend Josh is quite the talented airbrush artist. I drew this during my downtime. I think it came out OK considering the trouble I was having with my airbrush "grrrrr" . Well I might post more caricatures once I get around to shooting pictures of ones I'm somewhat pleased with.

Hello i did a painting a few years back , titled Fallen Samurai.

I received an e-mail from a gentleman named John Pizzurro.
He said he was interested in getting a tattoo done of this particular piece.
He was nice enough to ask my permission first, I was very flattered an immediately gave him permission to do so. I didn't think Ide ever hear from him. Long and behold I receive an e-mail with photos of his tattoo, and I have to say it looks great!
So If theres anyone else out there who'd like to get a tattoo with any of my work That's perfectly fine with me, just send me photos after its done.

I know the pose on cap looks similar to most of the other poses ive been doing.
im not really searching for dynamic poses right now im only trying to find my own style. so I stick with a pose that im familiar with,
then try to simplify or take away what I like. I feel like im starting to get my footing.

Hello some of you may know that I love the all of the Predator films. No matter how bad they have become in the eyes of most film critics.
I always wondered how a Predator would look as if it were in its own animted series. I would have drawn an alien but, Ill save that for a later date.

Some of you might not know is that i do caricatures on the weekend for fun and xtra video game money i sit there drawing people in a cartoony style that ive been doing my whole life. i recently got sick , so i watched hours upon hours of animation that got my brain full of ideas. so i drew up Kratos from my faveorite video game "GOD OF WAR" for the PS2. I played the demo to part 2 and its incredible.

Heres another Samurai Piece I was delighted to do.
I recieved such a great response from my previous samurai paintings, I wanted to do more. I decided to make the horns blossom into branches cause it brought more to the piece. When I do these pieces I dont want to take a "snapshot" of a moment in history, Ide rather bring an element of fantasy to it. Ihope to see this one printed on canvas someday hopefully soon. This piece took me quite a bit of mental strain. This composition is the 6th of many other versions. I'm adding a black and white inked version as well. Hi,
As some of you know I've been inking a lot more these days. I've been real happy leaving my cartoon style behind for a while.I usually ink with sharpies and I wasn't satisfied with the outcome. I started using my old quills and I bought a brush to ink with. I'm a lot happier with the look I'm getting. Coloring was a snap. Done in photoshop7 in less than half an hour.

Hello everyone,
Besides drawing for fun, I also really enjoy buying and collecting toys. I really dont know why. Why does a man in his late 20's still have the need to raid and pillage a Toys R Us every week to see whats new? I dont know.
It might have to do with the fact that when I was a kid, my parents rarely bought me toys. Maybe once a year, on my birthday. We werent rich, and I think my parents didnt want to spoil me. Im not a maniac I just buy figures (not dolls)that seem to tickle my fancy. If something catches my eye, I have to have it! Heres a small glimpse of about a third of the toys i have on disply. Some are tucked away, or unopened. Feel free to let me know how much of a dork I am.

I have to say lately ive been a scatter brain when it comes to drawing. One minute Im painting the next im drawing caricatures.My brain felt like it was melting. I decided to relax and slow it up a bit. I went back to the basics. The basics meaning how and when I really started to enjoy drawing.
I really like drawing cartoons on paper with pen and ink. I really like to zone out and just ink for hours. So heres a piece i did just hangin out with a cup of coffee and a fist full of Sharpies. I liked this piece enough to do a quick color job on Photoshop.

Hello everyone. Heres a painting i did last year. I had some canvas from, art school, so I i decided to do something diffrent. I always said, If i ever won the lottery Ide stay home paint, and play video games :)
I really miss the feeling i got working with brushes on canvas. I never considered myself as a "painter", more of an illustrator or cartoonist / slacker.

This image popped in my head of a warlike spirit who stands for strength and power.
I wanted to do this piece for a while. I'm still not sure about the color scheme but decided to go with a warmer tone. It didn't feel as intimidating if I used tones of blue , green and violets.

Hello.
Ive been thinking about bonzai trees lately. My brother used to have some and take care of them. I always admired their beauty. On the other hand, i dont have the time or patience to take care of one. Its a lot of work! So i later decided to draw and enormous tree!. Not just any tree I wanted the tree to seem very strong and wise. I guess thats what I was goin for . that was the trickiest part.
I also read somewhere a lot of reigious cultures use trees in their stories. Almost every religion has a story involving a mighty tree of some sort. I guess this is whats been on my mind lately.
Hope you enjoy it.
I didnt put a black or grey border on this piece. some people were sayin they didnt care for the border.
